NH Division of Forests & Lands - Bear Brook Biomass


nh_bear_brook.jpgThe Division of Forests and Lands, one of the four divisions of the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development, had need for a combination warehouse, office building and vehicle storage facility at Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, New Hampshire. Part of the mission of the Division of Forests and Lands is responsible management and protection of the State's resources. As such, pursuing biomass heating for the new 10,400 square foot facility was a natural fit due to the environmentally friendly, sustainable elements of such a system.

Project Scope

Yeaton Associates, Inc. was engaged by the State of New Hampshire to provide sustainable mechanical design, including a new biomass boiler plant for the Combination Warehouse, Office Building & Vehicle Storage Facility.

Project Result

Yeaton's design featured a biomass boiler plant complete with two pellet boilers, an auto-feed auger and a 12-ton silo for pellet storage. The mechanical systems of the building also include wall-mounted, condensing gas fired boilers that operate in the shoulder seasons and as back-up for the pellet fired boilers. The pellet boiler plant has a total capacity of 300 MBH. The pellet boiler plant, the natural gas boiler plant, the hot-water distribution system and the air handling equipment are all integrated through a direct digital control system.
