MCC Automotive Technology Training Center - LEED Gold
The Automotive Technology Training Center is part of Manchester Community College located in Manchester, New Hampshire. The 19,000 square foot facility represents phase 1 of the 12 million dollar project and consists of two classrooms and two automotive labs. The Center is the first training facility in New Hampshire to be LEED® Certified Gold by the United States Green Building Council.
Yeaton Associates, Inc. performed the mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, sustainable and energy engineering for Phase 1 of the Automotive Technology Training Center. One of the goals was to incorporate energy-efficient sustainable design for the 19,000 square foot automotive labs and associated classroom space in keeping with LEED® Gold criteria.
The design for the Automotive Technology Training Center focused on sustainable design inclusive of a thermally efficient building envelope. Mechanical systems included a high efficiency natural gas fired boiler plant, rainwater reclamation system, an energy recovery ventilation system interlocked with a variable volume vehicle exhaust system and solar domestic hot water generation system. Yeaton Associates developed the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Appendix G energy model indicating a 45% reduction in energy consumption as compared to the baseline building. The Automotive Technology Training Center obtained LEED® Gold Certification by the United States Green Building Council in February of 2010.
Yeaton Associates, Inc. started design work on Phase 2 of the Automotive Technology Center in November 2011, which will include 2 additional automotive labs and 10 additional classrooms. Construction of Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012.
